What we do:

Our firm focuses only on U.S. and Canadian taxes for individuals living in Canada.

We know how the two countries tax systems work together and where they don’t.  We advise, prepare and help file all tax returns and forms for individuals for both countries.

We put numbers in boxes, fill out forms and make sure no filing deadlines are missed so you can sleep at night knowing your cross-border tax needs are being taken care of.

We are a phone call, email or cup of coffee away when you have a cross-border tax question or any old tax question.

We keep current on tax laws in both Canada and the U.S., such that we can keep you up to date on anything that is important to your needs.

We give you the chance to get involved in how your returns are prepared, discussing options and risks with practicality in mind.

We get to know you so that we can be proactive with our tax advice (and because putting numbers into boxes is only fun when you know who you are doing it for).

We return phone calls, answer emails and keep you up to date on the status of your returns because we know your time is important.

We are happy to quote a fee before preparation of a tax return so you know what you will pay.  Advice seperate from preparing your taxes will be billed based on time spent.

Who we help:

U.S. citizens living in Canada

Whether you have never filed yet or file regularly, whether you need your Canadian tax return prepared too or if you already have a Canadian tax accountant, we can help.  Examples:

Annual 1040 & T1 Compliance

Annual FBAR/T1135 filing

‘Catch Up’ Streamlined Procedure Submissions

Prior Year Amendments

Non-U.S. Citizens working or investing in the U.S.

You might live in Canada but work in the U.S. or perhaps you have a rental property in U.S.  Whatever the situation, if you have income generated in the U.S. and you need advice on your U.S. tax filing obligations or need help with filing your U.S. tax return, we can help. Common filings include:

Form 1040NR Tax Returns

State Tax Returns

Form 8840 Filing

Relocating to or from U.S. and Canada

A cross-border move can be overwhelming (I have been there!).  Let us unscramble the tax part.  We offer consultations before or after the move and are happy to help with the ‘transition’ year of your tax returns even if you are okay on your own after that.  (NOTE: These are currently on hold until we get our staffing trained for this kind of work)

Who we are:

Heather Sanders, CPA, CAHeather Sanders, CPA, CA

Born and raised in Ontario, Heather moved west to attend UBC in Vancouver.  She obtained her Bachelor of Commerce with Honours and spent her first five professional working years in Vancouver.  While earning her Chartered Accountant designation, she quickly specialized in cross-border tax at a large National Accounting firm and loved the complexity in the area but also the personal interactions with clients.  After getting married, she and her husband jet-setted off to London England for a two-year hiatus where she personally experienced being an expat and learning about foreign taxes.

Kelowna has been home for the last fifteen years, and U.S and cross-border tax for individuals has been her focus since moving here. Working at a mid-sized national firm, Heather ran the U.S. tax practice for the firm helping offices in five different cities with their clients, before starting Tax Junction in 2015.  Heather has enjoyed working with clients from coast to coast in Canada and has set up Tax Junction to easily help clients wherever they live.

When she is not in the office, Heather is probably either driving her three kids to sport practices, sneaking away for a golf day with her hubby, escaping for a fitness class or up at Big White enjoying some family snow time (….or let’s be honest, likely doing laundry and cleaning up the kitchen!).

 Heather DeWolf

Heather number two has been with Tax Junction for four years now. Starting off with bookkeeping for a few years and assisting in the office when needed. However, with the business growing, she decided to branch out and learn the tax preparation end of the business too.

Before joining Tax Junction, Heather worked in the accounting department of a Dental Lab. Previous to having kids, she worked in the Banking and Insurance industry but decided to stay at home after her first child was born.

Heather grew up in Port Coquitlam, BC and moved to Victoria, BC to go to University. She attended UVIC where she got her Bachelor of Arts degree. She met her husband a few years later. After her husband joined the RCMP, they were posted to a couple coastal communities- Sechelt, and Galiano. Their last transfer brought them to Kelowna where they hope they can stay and enjoy the Okanagan with their two children.
